What an inspiration it is to see people well above the age age of 50 still keeping active and training.
Lately i have met several people that have shown me that by keeping the mind and body strong with great nutrition physical training you can stay functional, fit and alert.
Here is one of my clients who is 61 years old and came to me as a last resort after getting diagnosed with diabetes, 8 weeks later he is walking every day and personal training with me 3 times a week. It’s great to see someone turn their life around and just shows us all how getting fit and healthy can change your whole outlook on life.
Here is my advanced version of the spartan 300 workout.
The reason i have designed my circuit this way is because I think that it should work on a pound for pound basis and be just as tough if you weigh 100kg or 60kg. It tests your functional strength with the rope climb and then if you get past that you have to Bench Press, Squat and Deadlift your body weight plus the other 7 exercises you have to complete in under 30 minutes.
So first you weigh in and then tailor the circuit to suit your body weight. All the description is on this first youtube video. It’s a Hard, Fun and Tough Workout that will test your strength, stamina and fitness in every sense of the word.
Functional Strength Training… Alot of my clients ask me what exactly is it???
To me functional strength training, is strength training that enables you to obviously get stronger but to also get more powerful and increase your muscular endurance in the process. Functional strength training helps you stay strong, fit and functional, not muscle bound. So if you want to surf for a few hours you can… If you want to do martial arts you still can… If you want to go rock climbing you can… Basically it allows you to build muscle without getting muscle bound and just looking the part. You will probably often see a few people that are not functional “Looks like Tarzan – Fights like Jan” probably sais it all.
Stay posted and i will have some videos on here soon showing you what i call functional
Stamina and Endurance are some of the key components that give you the edge: They get you through a fight, They allow you to Super set a lot of your exercises instead of gasping for air waiting 2 minutes or so before starting again. They basically help you to excel in your chosen sport, hobby or just give you more steam in the bedroom if that’s all the sport you do : )
So how can i improve mine you’re asking yourself ???
Mix it up – Supersets – Sparring even when your fatigued and your new sparring partner is fresh – Beach Sprinting and the list goes on. Get your free copy of Fitter Faster Stronger up to the right to save me explaining it again here. I will be posting a few Videos on a few good hard ways to get your stamina through the roof.. Get those legs moving into sprints and get those arms punching on the boxing bag. Are a couple of the basic and great ways to increase your speed. But why are you trying to get faster, is it sports specific???
I train people mainly for sports like MMA, Kickboxing, Motorcross, Soccer and just general local legends (great people in my community) that love to keep fit, strong, healthy and their body in great shape. So what im going to touch on today is a bit about some simple and effective speed exercises that will get you as fast as Mr Miogy off the Karate Kid : ) Well maybe not that fast…
